Women in the Tech World are Delaying Motherhood.
Tech giants Facebook and Apple are providing a groundbreaking benefit to their employees by offering to pay for egg-freezing treatments. Facebook has been offering this benefit to any females under their insurance plan for roughly one year, Apple will begin this coverage in 2015.
Egg-Freezing is a revolutionary fertility procedure that just two years ago was still considered experimental. Egg-freezing has became a popular procedure for women who want to have children later in life but aren’t on the same track as their biological clock. While this procedure can greatly increase a woman's chances of getting pregnant, there are no guarantees.
Apple and Facebook both cover up to $20,000 worth of fertility treatments. Each round of egg-freezing treatments cost around $10,000 and the annual cost to store the eggs is $500. With 15 to 20 eggs being the recommended amount, some women only need one round of treatment while others can require up to three rounds.
