David Telfer, 34, is the owner of Enois Clothing, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu apparel and gear company in Los Angeles. Although he initially started the company in 2010, he began building it about a year ago. The idea had been on the back burner since his high school and college days, but he was too busy working towards a law career. After working at a law firm for six months, Telfer is no longer a lawyer.
“I haven’t taken the financially safe path. There are times when I go visit my friends who are still at the big law firms and I go visit them at their big houses. This is a path I could have pursued, but I don’t think it was a good fit for me. And I think there is a whole world of possibility when I quit law,” he said.
The fear factor has always stopped Telfer from practicing two interests he’s been passionate about for years: Brazilian jiu jitsu and design. He managed to put them together and build a career out of it.

“The biggest lesson for me is that failure is not as destructive as it seems, and not as dangerous as it seems. I think that’s really connected to that law thing. Law is a very structured career and it feels very safe, a lot of people would leave if they didn’t have much fear around it.”
